Walk amidst the centuries old woods above the Rila Monastery to reach the cave where st. Ivan Rilski lived as a hermit.
In the afternoon explore the sandstone Stob Pyramids - a natural rock phenomenon near the village of Stob. Though not as popular as the Melnik Pyramids, the ones at Stob are equally picturesque and diverse. Some of the pyramids resemble giant mushrooms, others have weird shapes, and are given names - The Towers, The Brothers, The Wedding Couple, etc. There is a nice legend associated with the Stob pyramids.
